OttawaReads Early Literacy Read Aloud Program

Grade Level: Elementary

Volunteers are needed for OttawaReads early literacy read aloud program at several Ottawa-Carleton District Public Schools.

Volunteers attend a 90-minute orientation and training workshop to learn early literacy strategies.

Once screened and trained, volunteers assist in JK to grade 3 classrooms reading one-on-one to students usually during the morning language periods. 

Volunteers commit to volunteering at least 1 hour per week for an agreed upon timeframe. Your schedule is determined at your school interview prior to beginning your placement. 

A police vulnerable sector check is required for all volunteer positions.
